- Grace objected to umpires Baldwin and Wood at lunchtime on
the 1st day. Surrey applied to Lord's for replacements, Hearn
and Mycroft. Wright took over as wicket-keeper from Reynolds
after lunch on the 1st day. Set to make 351 in the final
innings, the Gentlemen were 251-5 at tea but on the
resumption they lost their last five wickets for 62 runs in
45 minutes. Abel's 183* took four and a quarter hours and
included 17 fours. Burnup scored his 123, which included 16
fours, out of 181 made whilst he was at the crease, in 165
minutes
