Six balls later, Jayasuriya did it again, and was on a hat-trick
after removing Michael Bevan for a golden duck. Umpire Shepherd
gave Bevan out - caught behind, much to the delight of the Sri
Lankans, and to the utter dismay of Bevan. Brad Hogg scratched
around for a little while and was stumped by Sangakkara off de
Silva. But it was Symonds who made all the difference. Playing
sensibly, Symonds accumulated the runs on a slow track. If his
hundred against Pakistan was one of the finest one-day hundreds
of this World Cup, here was an innings of responsibility. He went
on to remain unbeaten on 91 (118 balls), hitting seven boundaries
and a six. Australia made 212/7 in their 50 overs. Andy Bichel
once again chipped in with a useful contribution of 19* off 21
balls.
