One man was determined not to make this his last one-day experience -
it was Aravinda de Silva. The veteran Sri Lankan batsman joined
Atapattu in the middle, and the runs started to flow. South Africa
missed the experience of Donald in the middle overs, as they failed to
break the growing partnership. Zondeki went for 35 runs off his six
overs, and never looked like getting a wicket. Atapattu went on to
complete a memorable hundred, and along with de Silva (73) added 152
valuable runs for the fourth wicket partnership. In an effort to
increasing the scoring rate, Sri Lanka lost the wickets of Atapattu
(124 off 129 balls) and de Silva in the space of three balls. The Sri
Lankan tail failed to wag, and all they could add was just 25 runs in
the last five overs.
