Marvan Atapattu had to make up for the dreadful run out of Jayasuriya,
and he started to play some lovely drives through the covers. Hashan
Tillakaratne tried his best, but found it hard to score runs freely,
and was caught behind off Jacques Kallis. Mahela Jayawardene is yet
another middle order batsman, who is struggling in this World Cup. He
had a lucky break; umpire Venkataraghavan failed to hear the nick and
turned down a big shout for caught behind. Jayawardene did not last
long enough, making just the solitary run off 11 balls, and was caught
behind off Andrew Hall. Sri Lanka were in deep trouble at 90/3 in the
23rd over, but the only hope was the man in form - Atapattu.
