India had another plan, they sent in Mohd Kaif at number four
position, and that proved out to be a good one. Kaif and
Tendulkar added 102 runs for the third-wicket partnership. With
the master batsman in top gear, there was no stopping India. Kaif
made 35 off 60 balls, but the star of the day was Tendulkar. Despite being
severely restricted by cramps – Tendulkar made 98 off 75 balls. Every run of that knock was worth a 100. Tendulkar was unlucky to have missed out on his first one-day hundred against Pakistan, failing to keep down an unplayable snorter from Akthar. The little master’s breathtaking innings included a stunning six over point off Akthar, and a dozen glorious boundaries. In the, meanwhile, Tendulkar became the first batsman to cross 12,000-run mark in one-day cricket.
