Tuesday 17th June
The details of fixtures for the 1999 Cricket World Cup in England have been
released and Kent will be involved in events. Firstly, the England team will prepare
for their zonal games at the St.Lawrence Ground and will use it as a base for
pre-match training. In addition there will be three one-day matches:
Fri 7 May: England v Kent
Sun 9 May: Kent v South Africa
Tue 18 May: England v Kenya
It is planned to increase the capacity of the St.Lawrence Ground to 15,000 for these
matches by using temporary stands. More details will be released in March.
Monday 16th June
Kent go to the top of the County Championship table after beating
Lancashire by 58 runs at Old Trafford. The visitors took the last Lancashire
wicket with just 7 balls to spare. Although John Crawley top scored with 91,
Lancashire's second highest score was just 29. Paul Strang again excelled -
the Kent overseas player took bowling-figures for the match of 11 for 186. Details
of Kent's defeat to Lancashire in the Sunday League can be found in our
June News Section.
Sunday 15th June
Kent have lost only their second Sunday League game of the season, being
defeated at Old Trafford by the team who shared the top of the Sunday League
table with them at the end of last week. Lancashire won a rain-reduced 35
over match after scoring 172 runs in their innings thanks to an undefeated 90
from Mike Atherton. In reply Kent were only able make 155 before being
bowled out with one over to spare. Read the full report of the game in our
Sunday League
section.
Saturday 14th June
Kent's latest Championship match is evenly poised with an exciting final day
in prospect at the close of Saturday's play. Kent were 81-4 when rain
brought play to an early halt at Old Trafford and were leading by 169. Matthew
Walker was 26 not out and David Fulton was unbeaten on 22. Earlier in the day
Lancashire were all out for 282, and managed to avoid the follow on thanks to
a magnificent 122 from Graham Lloyd. Paul Strang, Kent's 1997 overseas player,
took figures of 7-118.
Friday 13th June
Kent have staged a dramatic recovery on day 2 of the latest Championship
game against Lancashire at Old Trafford. The visitors finished on 373
all out thanks to an undefeated century from Ben Phillips - the 22 year
old's maiden first-class hundred. Assisted by Paul Strang with 43 and
Alan Wells with 65 he took Kent to 373 just before tea. Lancashire lost
quick wickets and finished on 113-5 at the close and looked doubtful of
reaching the 224 they need to avoid the follow-on. Get all the
championship scores from our English domestic season menu.
Thursday 12th June
Kent have had a frustrating first day of their latest County
Championship match at Old Trafford. In a day where only 39 overs were
possible Kent finished on 151-5. At the close Alan Wells was 31 not out
and Ben Phillips finished on 3. In a team unchanged from the last
championship match at Tunbridge Wells except for the addition of Mark
Eahlam after returning from Test duty, the highest score of the innings
so far has come from Matthew Walker who made 45.
Tuesday 10th June
At 6 minutes to six Northamptonshire were bowled out for 140 runs at Canterbury and
hundreds of Kent fans ran onto the pitch to celebrate the county's 3rd Lord's final in
six years.
Kent's season has now left them in a situation where as well as being in the final
of a major one-day competition they are also joint leaders in the Sunday League and
second in the County Championship; yesterday's win should give Kent the confidence they
need knowing that they can defend low totals as well as chase high ones.
Despite reaching only 206 in their innings, Kent managed to win by 66 runs after
Dean Headley took 3 early wickets (finishing with 3-36 from 10 overs) and Paul Strang
wrapped up the Northants tail-enders and achieved figures of 10 overs, 2 maidens, 4-29.
Full details of both semi-finals and every other match in the competition
this year are on our B&H Cup Menu.
Ticket Information:
Tickets for the final on July 12th (start time 11am) range from £27 to £47, please note that

have a voucher to send. Please note that Kent County Cricket Club are charging an extra 80
pence for every credit-card booking.
Saturday 7th June
Kent v Warwickshire at Tunbridge Wells:
On the final morning Kent dismissed Warwickshire for 280, giving them a target of
216 to win by the end of the day. At 158-6 the game could have gone either way but a
58 run unbeaten partnership between Alan Wells and Steve Marsh brought Kent victory and
23 points from the match.
Wells finished on 62 and Marsh 34, but Warwickshire's bowlers kept the pressure on
and Neil Smith took 4 for 68.
In the first Test of the Ashes series at Edgbaston, Kent's Mark Eahlam scores 53 not
out.
Friday 6th June
An undefeated 113 from David Hemp took Warwickshire to 237-6 at the close of
play on Friday at Tunbridge Wells. Having been at the crease for almost four and a
half hours Hemp has scored 1 six and 17 fours and Warwickshire will hope to set Kent
at target of at least 250 on Saturday.
Kent have a much limited bowling attack with both McCague and Headley suffering
from injuries, however Ben Phillips took 3-48 from 12 overs and there were also wickets
for Thompson, Fleming and Strang, the latter of whom bowled without a break from
the Railway End from 3.10 right through to the close of play.
Although light but persistent rain was threatening throughout the afternoon, only
fifteen minutes of play was lost. Kent have 7 bonus points from the game, Warwickshire 6.
It looks unlikely that Graham Cowdrey will play in the B&H Semi-Final game at
Canterbury on Tuesday - and his injury sustained in last week's Sunday League game at
Trent Bridge looks likely to keep him out of the side for the next few weeks.
Tickets for Tuesday's game will be £16 (£8 concessions) and members will have to pay.
Kent members with a car pass can park their cars free, but the police have said there will
be no access to the ground coming from the town centre. You can only get into the ground by
the main gate by going along the Old Dover Road approaching from the Bridge direction or
by travelling past the hospital via the B2068 and turning left
into the Nackington Road gate.
Wednesday 4th June
Julian Thompson takes 5-89 to help dismiss Warwickshire for 314 on the first day of
this year's Championship match at the Nevill Ground in Tunbridge Wells. Trevor Penney offers
resistance for the visitors with 84. Kent are 284 runs behind with all
ten wickets remaining, David Fulton and Matthew Walker 15 and 30 not out respectively at the
close of day 1.
Sunday 1st June
Kent play Nottinghamshire in the Sunday League at Trent Bridge and win by a comfortable
46 runs. It is the first time that Kent have beaten Nottinghamshire in the competition for
five years.
Kent make 252-7 from their 40 overs, despite being 136-5 with 12 overs left to go.
Matthew Walker opens the innings and makes 78, but by far the hero of the Kent batting is
Graham Cowdrey, Kent's 1997
beneficiary. His 81 not out includes numerous boundaries and helps Kent to progress
from 200 to 250 in just 18 balls. Nottinghamshire never look like achieving victory
and finish 47 runs short of their target.
Mark Eahlam is named in the England team in the first Test against Australia
at Edgbaston on Thursday - we'll have live coverage
from Birmingham here on CricInfo of what will be Eahlam's 3rd Test.
