Saturday 31st May
Kent are the only side to wrap up their latest championship match
a day early and take the maximum 24 points possible from the game
against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Mark Eahlam and Paul
Strang's record 9th-wicket partnership of 171 runs is a record for
Kent and helps the county to 440 all out.
Eahlam's 122 eclipses his previous championship best score of 121,
made against the same opponents at the same venue two years ago.
Kent's overseas player Paul Strang finishes with an impressive 73.
Kent manage to dismiss Nottinghamshire for 119 before the end of
the day and win by an innings and 105 runs.
Friday 30th May
An excellent day for Kent's cricketers as they achieve an 160
run lead over Northants at Trent Bridge. Mark Eahlam scores
his second first-class century ending the day 100 not out,
while new overseas player Paul Strang is 51 not out at the
close having made his second 50 for the county.
At 250-8 the match looked as if it would be much closer, but
Eahlam and Strang's 126 run unbeaten partnership swung it
Kent's way. The Kent record for the ninth-wicket is 161 runs.
Other highlights of the day included David Fulton achieving
his best championship score ever by making 94, and ex-Sussex
player Alan Wells making 35.
Meanwhile at Ashford, Kent 2nd XI drew with Somerset in the
latest Rapid Cricketline Championship match. Kent set the
visitors a target of 316 to win which they failed to reach,
finishing 212-6 at the close. Nick Preston took 3 wickets
and also made 62, but by far the spectacle of the day was
Nigel Llong's unbeaten 151 runs, a worthy attempt at regaining
a place in the 1st team.
Thursday 29th May
Kent dismissed Nottinghamshire for 216 on the opening day of
their latest championship match - Fleming taking 5-51.
Wednesday 28th May
Kent have a home draw in the semi-finals of the B&H Cup. They will play Northamptonshire
at the St.Lawrence Ground in Canterbury on June 10th and are now just one game away
from a final at Lord's in early July.
The other semi-final, to be played on the same day, will be between Surrey and
Leicestershire at the Oval.
The Semi-Final, under ECB regulations, will be an all ticket match. Tickets will
cost £16 for adults and £8 for juniors / concessions. There will be a total of
14,000 tickets sold. They will go on sale from next Wednesday both from both the
club office in Canterbury and also the Kent v Warwickshire game at Tunbridge Wells.
The club are also accepting postal applications but these should include a 30p
handling charge.
Dean Headley has today found out from a specialist that he does not have a stress
fracture to the back but he may have ligament problems. He has ben ruled out of
tomorrow's championship match at Trent Bridge and also the first Test but plans to
make a comeback for Kent's game against Warwickshire at Tunbridge Wells next week.
Nigel Llong is unlikely to play in the game against Nottinghamshire beginning on
Thursday at Trent Bridge, however David Fulton, Julian Thompson and Ben Phillips
are likely to be included in the side.
Tuesday 27th May
Kent are through to the B&H Cup Semi-Finals after beating Warwickshire by
4 wickets at Canterbury. A packed St.Lawrence Ground witnessed a tense match in
which over 600 runs were scored and three run-out appeals were decided by the
third umpire.
Matthew Walker received the Gold Award following his 117, holding Kent together
through five partnerships whilst hitting 3 sixes and 13 fours from 120 balls.
Following Walker's dismissal Graham Cowdrey
saw Kent to victory with an unbeaten 39 from just 26 deliveries.
Dean Headley played in the game despite much information to the contrary earlier
in the week. Warwickshire's Alan Donald was not so lucky, conceding 13
wides off the first over of the Kent innings and having to retire hurt after his
second over with a back injury.
Kent will play either Surrey, Leicestershire or Northamptonshire in the semi-finals
on Tuesday 10 June, depending on the result of the draw to be made on Wednesday
morning.

Monday 26th May
Dean Headley looks unlikely to be able to play in the first
Test match against Australia which begins on Thursday 5 June.
Headley is still suffering from a back injury and will
definitely not play in Kent's B&H Cup Quarter Final game
against Warwickshire tomorrow.
Sunday 25th May
Kent lose their first game in any one-day competition so far
this season, Sussex winning by 4 wickets in the Sunday League
game at Horsham.
Despite 60, 45 and 39 from Walker, Wells and Cowdrey
respectively, Kent fell 30 runs short of the score they should
have expected to achieve having been 135-1 after 26 overs. The
loss of 7 wickets in just over half an hour restricted them to
a score which was always within reach of Sussex despite them
losing four quick wickets before the end. Bill Athey's 109*
from just 117 balls (2 sixes and 13 fours) brought Sussex
their first Sunday win of 1997.

Saturday 24th May
Kent beat Sussex in their County Championship match at Horsham.
Martin McCague takes figures of 7-83 after tea when
the game seems to be heading for a certain draw. The win was
also largely thanks to the 183 run last wicket partnership
between Steve Marsh and Ben Phillips.
Friday 23rd May
Steve Marsh scores a century and he, with Ben Phillips in the Championship
game against Sussex at Horsham, achieve a 183 run last wicket-partnership for
Kent, the second highest such partnership ever. Sussex therefore are set 422 to win.
Tuesday 13th May
Kent will have a home tie in the B&H Quarter Finals on Tue 27 May after
their final zonal game against Gloucestershire at Bristol was abandoned
due to rain. Each side took a point, which brought Kent to the top of
the ground and guaranteed them a match at Canterbury.
Kent still have yet to lose a one-day game this season - they have only
lost one game so far, this was in the County Championship against Glamorgan.
Trevor Ward will miss the County Championship game against Glamorgan at
Canterbury due to a shoulder injury. Matthew Walker and David Fulton will
be brought into the side instead.
Wednesday 7th May
Min Patel will miss the rest of the cricket season after aggravating a knee
injury this weekend. Patel went to see a specialist this morning and is likely to
not be able to play cricket for 4 to 6 months.
Patel has overstretched ligaments in his right knee. He will go for a scan on
Friday and is likely to have an operation within the next two weeks.
Tuesday 6th May
There are worries that Min Patel may miss the rest of the
season. The player has aggravated a knee injury whilst playing
in a second XI game on Saturday and went to see a specialist
today. Whilst saying Patel is a "quality player" who is
"totally committed to Kent cricket", Kent's coach John Wright
fears the worst about the injury.
Kent guaranteed themselves a place in the B&H Cup
quarter-finals after beating British Universities at
Canterbury on Monday - though they will have to wait until
next Monday's results to see if they have achieved a home
tie. Kent have won all six of their one day games this
season - the championship match against Derbyshire was drawn.
Friday 2nd May
Kent virtually guarantee themselves a place in the Benson &
Hedges Cup Quarter-Finals after beating Sussex by 6 wickets at
Canterbury with 12.5 overs to spare. Matthew Walker continued
his incredible season with 69 not out. Paul Strang, Kent's
overseas player in '97, again impresses with 4-27 from 8.3
overs (including 3 maidens).
