Monday 4th August

Further frustation at New Road as the Worcestershire v Kent championship match is abandoned as a draw following prolonged heavy rainfall on the final afternoon. Worcestershire batted for 35 minutes in the morning session before declaring on 174-3, setting Kent a target of 321 to win from a minimum of 80 overs. Only 48 of those were possible before the rain came at 3.26pm, with Kent at that stage on 158-4; Kent at that stage looking unlikely to achieve their victory target, despite 52 from Trevor Ward (72 balls with 8 fours) and 43 from Alan Wells. Kent now have a day to prepare for Canterbury Cricket Week and the visit of Essex to the St.Lawrence Ground.

Headley and Marsh also shared a partnership of 48 for the eighth wicket. At the close Worcestershire were 82-3 from 17 overs.
