In 1982, seven years into my term as the clubs Scorer and Statistician, a very young man with very broad shoulders said "hello" when he was introduced to me. Now 21 years on Robin Smith is still saying hello, and he has proved (with due deference to many others) to have been the nicest man I have ever had the pleasure to work with.

We know all about his skills as a batsman, we know of the way he dismisses bowlers all around the park, his statistics in another part of these web pages tell us that story, and there will be articles, testimonials about all that within. But this is my own personal tribute to a great (and I do not use that word lightly) man, a great player and a great friend.

All I need to say as his friend, colleague, testimonial webmaster and confidant, is that I wish him a superb testimonial year, and that I only hope I can continue to offer 100% support to assist him in this aim.

To Kathy and Robin, good luck, I will be there behind you, not just scoring the runs, but scoring the amount of cash you good people are going to put into his coffers at functions, cricket matches, events or just as a donation...
