The ICC is recruiting for two senior cricket positions as it expands its staffing resources to better meet the growing needs of the international game.

The first stage of the recruitment drive will focus on the appointment of high calibre individuals for the following positions:

Umpires & Referees Manager: this crucial role has been created to manage the appointment and administration of the ICC's new panels of match umpires and referees. The new panel system will be in place from April 2002 and the appointee will be responsible for managing, mentoring and coaching umpires and referees on all aspects of their roles, including training and development.

The ideal candidate is likely to be an experienced former first class or international cricketer, umpire or referee. The position will be based at the ICC's office at Lord's and will involve travel around the cricketing world.

High Performance Consultant: will work exclusively to improve the competitiveness of the four non-Test nations competing in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa (Canada, Kenya, Namibia and the Netherlands). The position will involve assessment visits and preparation plans for each country, involvement in Emerging Nations tournaments, and attendance at the World Cup to monitor and report on performance.

The successful candidate will have experience and success of the international game in playing, coaching, management or development. Relocation to the UK for an overseas appointment is not envisaged.

Commenting on the recruitment programme ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed said: "These are extremely important appointments in two high profile areas of the ICC's workload. The Umpires and Referees Manager will be central to the successful introduction and management of the new international panels, while the High Performance Consultant is part of the US$ 1 million investment in preparing Canada, Kenya, Namibia and the Netherlands for the 2003 World Cup.

The ICC has committed itself to delivering the best service it can to international cricket and these appointments will add significantly to its ability to achieve this ambition," he added.

In addition to these cricketing appointments the ICC is also strengthening its legal and financial resources with the recruitment of an in-house lawyer at Lord's and a finance director based in Monaco.

Both will be senior management positions, reflecting the increasing need of the organisation for specialist skills and expertise in managing the affairs of the international game.
