(3rd Test: India v England at Bangalore, 19-23 Dec 2001)
India had a shocking start to their first innings. Andrew Flintoff, bowling with a lot of pace and bounce, snarled three big wickets. Deep Dasgupta (0), VVS Laxman (12) and Shiv Sunder Das (28) were all back in the pavilion by close of play on the second day. Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar were up against a very difficult tactic employed by Nasser Hussain. With Giles bowling a leg-side line, Dravid (3 off 61 balls) fell to a perfect outswinger from Matthew Hoggard. Sourav Ganguly (0) was caught by Mark Butcher off Hoggard, and India were in a lot of trouble at 121/5. Tendulkar was fighting a lone battle, with a shaky Virender Sehwag bamboozled frequently by Hoggard outswingers.
