Blessington Thomas, CricInfo
20 September 1998
Heavy rain and waterlogged pitch resulted in the match being called
off without a ball being bowled. Both Hyderabad XI and MRF XI were
declared joint winners after the captains agreed to share the Cup. The
playing conditions state that ``The match which is abandoned without a
ball being bowled shall not be replayed. The result shall be decided
by the spin of the coin in the presence of the two Umpires.
With this win, the Hyderabad XI has won the Cup for the last three
consecutive years (1996, 1997 & 1998). This is the second time in
history that Hyderabad XI has won the Cup three times in a row, since
its inception in 1934. MRF XI won the Cup in 1995 and now in 1998.
The chief guest Brig. MV Gangadhar (Andhra sub-area commander)
gave away the Cup to MV Sridhar, captain of Hyderabad and WV Raman,
captain of MRF. A prize purse of Rs. 75,000 each was also distributed
to each of the teams.
