1. RR Phillips (Border) took a hat-trick in his first over in 
   First-Class cricket (v Eastern Province at Port Elizabeth 1939-40)
   having previously played in four matches without bowling.

2. Rao, six days later, performed two  hat-tricks  in  one  match
   against  North  Punjab.  Shortly  afterwards, he was injured in a
   parachuting accident becoming a paraplegic.
