Area
About 40 minutes drive from the historic Dutch town of Galle, Taprobane
Island lies in the Bay of Welligama. Catch the fishermen chugging out of
the bay at dusk for their nightly task and see them as twinkling stars on
the horizon throughout the night. Galle houses the magnificent Fort, built
by the Dutch in the early 1600s. Galle is also the traditional home of jewellery
design in Sri Lanka and there are plenty of gem shops to see stars on your
fingers as well as the horizon. One of the best and most beautiful surfing
beaches on the south coast lies a short drive down the coast from Taprobane.
But you may wish simply to stay on your unique island and enjoy some of
the finest views of their kind in the world. |
