With Mongia being ruled out for the deciding final Test against Australia at Chennai an unlikely hero in Sameer Dighe was born. A man who almost gave up the game and went to America for higher studies Dighe got a fresh lease of life when he was picked to tour Australia in 1999. Although not distinguishing himself behind the wickets, Dighe won favour with many teammates, Sachin Tendulkar in particular. Most recently, Dighe scored a fighting 22 not out in Chennai under trying circumstances and took India to victory. All round, not a great stumper but believed to be a fighter.
