The loss of key spinner Brian Murphy to a calf strain during the
luncheon interval and a strong start by New Zealand - led from
the front by captain Stephen Fleming (46 off 42 balls, 10 fours)
- did not help Zimbabwe's cause in the afternoon. But they stuck
to their task and managed to claw their way back into the game by
reducing New Zealand to 97/3 in the 20th over. The Black Caps
needed a huge partnership at this stage. Fortunately for them,
Chris Cairns, who has been contributing consistently with the
bat, walked out to make 54 off 73 balls and forge a match-winning
121-run fourth wicket partnership with Astle.
