Tatenda Taibu, though, was not going to allow himself to be
demoralised by the loss of his idol. Playing with great maturity,
the young man in the company of his captain Heath Streak set
about rebuilding the Zimbabwean innings. Initially, it was hard
grind as just 45 runs came in 16 overs. But when Stephen Fleming
brought in Astle to bowl the 41st over, Taibu hit the first ball
over backward square leg for a six to signal the opening of the
sluice-gates. By the time he was dismissed in the 43rd over, the
Zimbabwean wicketkeeper had notched up his maiden half-century in
26 ODIs, making 53 off 79 balls (one six and three fours).
