St George's Park in Port Elizabeth was the venue for the first
semi final match of World Cup 2003. Australian skipper Ricky
Ponting won the toss and elected to bat first on a track that was
not exactly great for free stroke-play. In the second over of the
game, bowled by Gunaratne, Adam Gilchrist hit a boundary and
flicked a sweetly timed six over the deep square leg fence.
Jayasuriya brought Aravinda de Silva in to bowl the sixth over.
There was high drama off the very second ball of that over;
Gilchrist went for a sweep, Sangakkara took the catch behind the
stumps, and umpire Rudi Koertzen turned the appeal down.
Gilchrist knew that he had got some bat on it, and immediately
walked back to the pavilion.
