As always the script of the Australian run chase was quite
predictable. Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden showed very little
respect to the Zimbabwe bowling. They added 89 runs for the first
wicket in just 14.1 overs. Hayden (34) was the first to depart -
caught by Grant Flower off the bowling of Douglas Hondo. After
the fall of the first wicket, the scoring slowed down
considerably as the spin bowlers took over. And that man Douglas
Marillier struck again, getting the wicket of Gilchrist (61) with
a rank long hop. Gilchrist pulled the ball to the deep country
and substitute fielder Ervine took a simple catch.
