England tour of New Zealand

Plans are underway for the Tour to New Zealand. The Kiwis have always given us a warm reception and we are looking forward to renewing old acquaintances.

The New Zealand tour is fast approaching with many of the existing soldiers of the Barmy Army heading out for the Test Series starting on the 13th March in Christchurch, continuing on to Wellington on the 21st March and finishing off in Auckland from the 30th March.

We have made contact with the Holy Grail' Sports Bar in the center of Christchurch who are keen to attract as many British fans as possible to their premises.

Holy Grail Sports Bar 88 Worcester St, City Ph: 64-3-365-9816 Fax: 64-3-365-9817
'New Zealand's biggest sports bar the Holy Grail provides the sports mad public of Canterbury and visitors from all over the world an unparalleled entertainment experience!'

They have suggested organizing pool and darts tournaments, social 25 over cricket fixtures and hosting a major party at the end of the 1st Test.

Facilities include 30+ screens, with access to Sky Sports channels, an internet kiosk, transport options to the cricket ground (approx. 30 mins walk away) and a notice board which they are happy to allow the Barmy Army, or indeed any fans, to use to contact each other on. We will also post details of any other events on this notice board. This will be a definite fixture, as it seems the most sensible way for people to communicate both before and during the Test.

We have also been in contact with Canterbury Cricket Association who are based in Christchurch, and the week before the 1st Test is their 125th Jubilee festival week. They have invited us to any of the events being held during that week. They include:

1. Thurs 7th- Sat 9th March, State Canterbury Wizards v England at Hagley Park; which is 3 days of cricket surrounded by an English market day atmosphere, with entertainment, fun rides, market stalls, food and much more!!

2. On Sunday the 10th March, and Tuesday the 12th March at the same venue is the Golden Oldies Cricket Tournament, games start at 12 noon. Following the Tuesday match, people are invited back to "The Bog" the official Jubilee bar for an evening of fun and entertainment. There are many other events that I have details of, for further information contact me on 07956 698197 (Paul).
