followed by Brian Lara on 1034, Shane Warne on 981 and Wasim Akram on 894.
ICC Trophy players Steve Tikolo and Minzahul Abedin received one vote each.
Donald Bradman received one vote despite having retired from the game 22 years
before the first one-day international. I trust the person who voted for
Sir Garfield Sobers
checked his ODI career stats first. Finally, a special thank you to the person
who registered a vote for Hulk Hogan, however I could not find his name in the Who's Who
of Cricketers anywhere...
Thank you for participating, and keep watching for more CricInfo surveys!
This poll was conducted between 16 and 22 April 1997.
You were asked to choose five batsmen, one all-rounder, one wicket-keeper, and
four bowlers based on one-day international form. Although this was intended
to be restricted to current players, this was not made explicit at the time
of the poll (for which we apologise) and votes for past players were received
and accepted. We will be conducting a separate poll for your all-time great
World XI in the near future. So as not to disadvantage players who received
votes in more than one category (eg batsman and all-rounder), the total votes
for each player were added up in considering their place in the final eleven.
Variations in spelling of players names received during voting have also been
added together. This survey is not presented as a means of determining the
best players in the game, rather the most popular players among those
registered users of CricInfo who participated in the vote.
