Dasgupta promises to fight it out for India place (23 April 2001)
He had been so busy playing club matches in the city, that Deep Dasgupta had no idea when the probables for the Zimbabwe tour would be selected. Moreover, he had never thought that he would find a place amongst an elite lot. It was a club official who informed him about the good news on Sunday evening. And since then the wicket-keeper from Bengal has been flooded with congratulations. "I had never really expected to find a place amongst the 26 cricketers. However, now that I have got the opportunity, I will fight it out" said Dasgupta.

Three newcomers in Indian probables for Zimbabwe tour (22 April 2001)
There were few surprises in the list of 25 probables for India's forthcoming tour of Zimbabwe which Board secretary JY Lele announced at the Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation ground in Baroda on Sunday. Only three of them have not represented India before in either Tests or ODIs: medium pacer Rakesh Patel and rookie wicket keepers Ajay Ratra and Deep Dasgupta. Amongst the probables are three protagonists from the ongoing Ranji Trophy final: Zaheer Khan and Rakesh Patel from Baroda and Harvinder Singh from Railways.
