Champagne debut for Shewag
Virender Shewag made his first class debut against Haryana at Rohtak's
Maharaja Agrasen Stadium in October 1998, two days after his 20th
birthday. It was the first engagement for both sides in the North Zone
league. Haryana captain Vijay Yadav opted to bat first on winning the
toss and, to his chagrin, found his team bundled out for 139 on the
opening day.

Shewag delights with massive double
The 1999-2000 Duleep Trophy quarterfinal between North and South Zones was held at the Maharaja Bir Bikram College Stadium in Agartala in the first week of December. North Zone were led by Vikram Rathour and boasted a strong batting line-up that had Virender Shewag batting at No.6. South Zone were hampered by the late withdrawal of their skipper Mohd. Azharuddin but still possessed a well balanced side.

The two big guns in the North Zone Ranji Trophy league, Punjab and Delhi, met head to head at the Punjab Agricultural University Ground in Ludhiana last season. In this, the penultimate fixture for both sides, Punjab won the toss and electing to bat, amassed 530/7 before declaring late on the second day.

Shewag leads rally from hopeless position
The Barabati Stadium at Cuttack was the venue of the final 1998-99 Super League tie in Group B between Orissa and Delhi. The home team won the toss and batted Delhi out of the match, settling at a formidable 561 before being bowled out on the third morning of this four day encounter.
