A quintet of wickets on debut
Tamil Nadu kicked off their Ranji Trophy campaign in 1999-2000 with an
away fixture against Andhra at Visakhapatnam. With S Ramesh

An exemplary leader
The Cooch Behar Trophy, the premier domestic competition for
cricketers aged under nineteen, kicked off this season with the zonal
league matches in September and October. In the South Zone, there were
some prominent casualties strewn about the wayside, like Karnataka and
Hyderabad. Only Tamil Nadu and Andhra made it through to the knockout
stages held at the steel city of Jamshedpur. Tamil Nadu, which got a
bye into the quarter finals, were drawn to play the home team Bihar.

Vidyuth spins Tamil Nadu to victory
When Tamil Nadu Under-19s won the toss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium
at Chepauk and asked Goa Under-19s to take the field in the Cooch
Behar Trophy 1999-2000, their captain Vidyuth Sivaramakrishnan
was in his element. Although he had very little role to play with the
bat, Tamil Nadu managed to muster up a more than decent 311/9

Decisive spell from Vidyuth sees South Zone clinch victory
The CK Nayudu Trophy Under-19 Tournament has always attracted exciting
young talent. When Central Zone Under-19s took on South Zone Under-19s
at Chennai this was especially so. Both teams boasted sides that had
players who were already beginning to make the headlines. For Central
Zone Under-19s, Mrithyunjay Tripathi,
Shalab Sriwastava
and Anup Dave
represented a strong bowling attack. The South had all rounder Y Venugopal Rao,
batsman Arjun Yadav
and left spinner Vidyuth Sivaramakrishnan
