The scoring system is based on a system of weights that takes into account the performances of other members of the Indian team. Points are awarded under five categories, namely:
- Runs scored
- Batting average
- Wickets taken
- Bowling average
- Catches taken
| [ View table below ] |
In each category, the player with the best performance upto the present date is awarded 10 points. The next-best performance is awarded 9 points, the subsequent one 8, and so on, until the poorest performer in that particular category receives 0 points. Such weighted points are awarded in all five categories; in the cases where some players will inevitably register no performance (no catches or wickets taken, for example), 0 points are automatically awarded.
Such evaluations are performed cumulatively; points are added for each player across all five categories to obtain a final point value at the end of the tour; at the end of the third Test match, players are ranked in the descending order of point values.
