India, after their explosive batting performance against England, started as the favourites against South Africa. Their skipper Sourav Ganguly bested Shaun Pollock at the toss in the afternoon and decided to give his batsmen the chance to put up a massive score. Virender Sehwag got off to his usual boisterous start, scoring 10 runs off Pollock’s opening over. With Ganguly also stroking a few boundaries at the other end, the Indian innings was soon rattling along. But then Ganguly fell to Mkhaya Ntini in the sixth over.
