After the dismissal of the duo, it was left to Damien Martyn to hold the Australia innings together. Playing with the finesse he is renowned for, Martyn, during the course of a classy 73, forged a 74-run fourth wicket partnership with Darren Lehmann (35) before adding 57 runs for the fifth wicket with Michael Bevan (21). With Shane Watson also smashing a few valuable runs (19* off 10 balls) in the end overs, Australia ended up with a score of 296-7.
