and the ugly of September. |
Our choice for September was the dominant player in the Sahara Cup in Canada, and a key figure in India's comeback from the one-day doldrums. Man of the match in all but the first game in the Toronto series, the third game saw him take on the unlikely role of matchwinner with the ball, his 5 for 16 from ten overs being statistically one of the finest limited-over performances in years. Rewarded with Man of the Series in Toronto, he ended the month of September with another award-winning performance at the National Stadium in Karachi which spearheaded yet another Indian victory. Despite some criticism of his selection earlier in the year, he has cemented his place in both India's Test and one-day sides and has been spoken about as Indian captain, maybe not too far in the future.
