NEW ZEALAND v SOUTH AFRICA 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - September 11, 2002
At Kallang Ground, Singapore, August 25. South Africa won by eight wickets. Toss: New Zealand. South Africa sailed into the final with a crushing triumph over New Zealand, whose batsmen failed to exploit a surprisingly dry and bouncy track. Losing their top five for 55 runs by the 15th over, with experimental opener Vettori lasting only three balls, they never put together any partnership of substance. Only Harris thrived, scoring 42, and there was some deplorable shot selection as the side folded for 158. Kirsten and Hall launched South Africa's chase in style, putting on 94 in 18 overs, and Kirsten was still there, unbeaten on 75, when the Proteas breezed home with 16 overs to spare. He became the second South African after Hansie Cronje to reach 5,000 one-day international runs, in his 137th game.
Man of the Match: S. M. Pollock.
