It was dejaveu at Hadar Yosef Stadium on Saturday when Tel Aviv made short work of Young Ashdod for the second time in 3 weeks, this time in the first round of the ICA Cup.
Playing on the recently arrived Flicx Pitch for the first time, the Tel Aviv batsmen flayed the Young Ashdod attack to shreads, scoring 231 for 9 off 40 overs. Once again Frank Auger (55) was involved in a 100-run partnership, this time with Paul Thomas, who scored 42. Auger's first half century of the season was peppered with some elegant off drives and intelligent running between the wickets. In the last 10 overs the hosts put on 85 runs. The Young Ashdod bowling was not up to the standard expected of a Division A team, with 60 extras being conceded. Aside from Thomas and Auger, Stanley Perlman was once again among the runs, contributing an aggressive 31. The only Young Ashdod bowlers among the wickets were the Ashton's, who shared 5 wickets between them.
Tel Aviv opening bowler Wesley Hunt made an impressive debut with 4 for 20 off 8 overs of unswerving accuracy. Thomas took his wicket tally to 16 this season, while Avner Greenberg and Mike Mohnblatt proved that great bowlers only develop late in life, as Young Ashdod were bundled out for just 80.
