Caddick ignores criticism while Dravid retains hopes of a win CricInfo - 7 September 2002
England opening bowler Andrew Caddick believes that the England attack did all they could on a batsman-friendly pitch to keep the Indians within check. Caddick's own reward for one of his better performances since returning from injury was to claim the prized wicket of Sachin Tendulkar. "From the Vauxhall Road end it helps that my arm is above the sightscreen and the ball comes out of the window, so thankfully it was a straight one and I got the lbw. On that kind of wicket we did everything we could. Sometimes you have to sit back and wait for the Indians to make a move." Caddick is not worried about the criticism to which he has been subjected since returning to the international team. "I have dealt with that before and I will deal with it again, I am not bothered what people say about me. If I have a bad game I have a bad game, if someone wants to come and take my spot let them come and take my spot. "It's the first injury I have had for seven years so I am having to deal with it and I feel back on the straps. Conditions haven't been ideal, it's been a bit blustery out there and it hasn't swung, maybe with a bit of cloud cover and some more warmth tomorrow it will swing around." Meanwhile Rahul Dravid is revelling in his outstanding run of batting form. "I just try and take one ball at a time, keep reminding myself about staying at the wicket and my role in the team," he said. "My hundred at Headingley was obviously the best I have played but I think this was very important for the team's point of view. When you are chasing 515 someone needs to play a big innings." If India have not given up hope of winning this match and therefore the series, Dravid acknowledges that it will not be easy. "There is still a lot of work to be done and any of the three results are still possible. We will have to see how it goes, the first session tomorrow will be crucial - if we don't lose wickets early on we can press on from there."
