Like father, like son
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 30, 2002

England's opening first-class match against Western Australia at theWACA, and a young fast bowler called Jones with one cap to his name takes a five-for. A lot has changed in the last 36 years - but not everything.

Exactly 36 years ago, on October 30, 1965, Jeff Jones had his first bowl of England's Ashes tour. He went wicketless, but two days later - there was a rest day in the middle of a four-day game - Jones skittled the WA lower order to take 5 for 59. Like father, like son: Simon took 5 for 78 for England today.

Jones the younger wouldn't be too disappointed with his father's eventual haul - 15 wickets in four Tests at an average of 35.53, and he'd certainly take the 6 for 118 that Jeff managed in the first innings at Adelaide, though not the result: England lost by an innings.

One thing's for sure, Jones and England would take a repeat of the series outcome: it ended 1-1.
