McGrath sets sights on 500 Wisden CricInfo staff - October 22, 2002
Still basking in the limelight of becoming only the eighth bowler to take 400 Test wickets, Glenn McGrath issued a warning to the world's batsmen - he is aiming to break Courtney Walsh's record of 519 victims. "Of course, my immediate goal is take 450 wickets and then go on to get 500 in Tests and 300 in one-day games," said McGrath. "I am still enjoying my bowling and my body is going well. Everything is going well, though I miss my family, but I have to put bread and milk on the table." McGrath admitted that he was nervous before the start of play at Sharjah. "It took a while to sleep thinking about my 400th wicket. But I didn't have to wait long this morning and it was very enjoyable out there in the middle. I try to learn from each match and I am always learning. I like to bowl to a plan." He added that he was looking forward to the forthcoming Ashes series. "Pakistan have not been at full strength and we've been quite dominant over them," he said. "England have played some good cricket this year and we'd like to think we'll get a tougher challenge in the Ashes series. "The confidence is definitely high, we're playing very good cricket with both bat and ball and hopefully we can take that into the series against England."
