11.10am Australia 444 beat Pakistan 221 and 203 (Raza 68, McGrath 3-18) by an innings and 20 runs It took less than ten overs for Australia to complete Pakistan's humiliation, when Mohammad Sami top-edged Andy Bichel to Damien Martyn. The Aussies celebrated in a happy huddle: the series was won 3-0, their second consecutive clean sweep against Pakistan. Hasan Raza salvaged some of Pakistan's battered pride with a doughty 68, to go with his first-innings 54. His 152-ball battle ended when he tried to leave a short delivery from Bichel, but guided it almost off the face of the bat through to Adam Gilchrist, who took a fine one-handed catch. Bichel jumped up and down the pitch like a joyous bunny on a trampoline, and Australia were almost home. After Martyn administered the last rites, Shane Warne was declared Man of the Series for his 27 wickets, and Man of the Match for his eight here. Even by Warne's standards, this has been an outstanding renaissance: since being carted all round India 18 months ago he has taken 70 wickets in 10 Tests outside Australia, and his strike rate in those games – a wicket every 37 balls – would do any fast bowler proud. The cup of joy for Australia was filled with Justin Langer recovering from his injury yesterday. He came on to serve refreshments to his mates during the drinks break, just minutes before the match ended. The last time Pakistan beat Australia in a Test was in 1995-96, in a dead rubber at Sydney. If this miserable showing is anything to go by, their hopes of a Test win against Australia in the near future are as likely as a snowstorm in the desert.
