Agarkar smashed the fastest fifty by an Indian in one-day internationals, a 21-ball blitz that beat Kapil Dev's 22 balls against West Indies at Berbice in 1982-83. He concluded the innings with two sixes off Campbell; in all, he struck four sixes and seven fours in his 25-ball 67. India's top order had failed in Ganguly's absence, but they were rescued from 114 for five by a 102-run partnership between Badani and Sodhi, a 20-year-old Sikh whose maiden international fifty was overwhelmed by Agarkar's run-riot as they added 85 in 39 balls. Yet Zimbabwe were not daunted by a target of 302. Madondo impressed with a defiant run-a-ball 71, and Marillier hit a brisk 38 before falling leg-before to India's man of the moment, Agarkar.
