Pakistan v Sri Lanka, 2000-01 Wisden CricInfo staff - October 9, 2002
At Sharjah, April 8 (day/night). Pakistan won by 16 runs. Toss: Pakistan. International debut: W. C. A. Ganegama.
Pakistan made a winning start when Saqlain Mushtaq removed the last two Sri Lankans with successive deliveries, ending their run-chase 17 short with nine balls remaining. Sri Lanka's hopes were high after 43 overs, at 201 for five, but Waqar Younis then brought himself back on and bowled three men in his first 11 balls. He had earlier trapped Jayasuriya in the first over of the innings. However, the match award went to Saeed Anwar, who had opened with 90, striking eight fours and adding 88 with Inzamam-ul-Haq. Sri Lanka's reply also featured an 88-run stand, between Kaluwitharana and Atapattu.
