West Indies v South Africa, 2000-01
Wisden CricInfo staff - October 9, 2002

At St John's, May 2. South Africa won by eight wickets. Toss: South Africa. A partnership of 179 between Gibbs and Kallis beat South Africa's second-wicket record and ensured a comfortable victory. Gibbs scored 104 from 141 balls, hitting three sixes and eight fours in his fourth hundred in one-day internationals. Kallis joined him after Cuffy bowled Kirsten with the seventh ball of an eight-over spell yielding just 17 runs. For West Indies, Gayle's fifty had laid a solid foundation, but there was little for Lara to celebrate on his 32nd birthday. Although Chanderpaul and Hooper added 86 in 78 balls, their efforts to increase the scoring-rate led to Chanderpaul's run-out just when he looked most threatening; his 60 from 54 balls contained three sixes and two fours. The remaining wickets managed only 30, leaving South Africa a target that Gibbs and Kallis found trifling.
Man of the Match: H. H. Gibbs.
