A timely century for Waugh
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 16, 2002

Steve Waugh has made a timely return to form ahead of the second Test at Adelaide, with a century for New South Wales against South Australia at Sydney. Waugh, whose cagey batting at Brisbane was England's only glimmer of optimism, hit four sixes and 13 fours in his 135, an innings that spanned more than five hours. It was a typical backs-to-the-wall affair as well, one that saved NSW from the indignity of the follow-on. It was Waugh's 70th first-class hundred in a 325-match career.

There was further bad news for England's prospects, when Andy Bichel responded to Brett Lee's challenge with a matchwinning burst of 5 for 46 for Queensland against Tasmania. Lee, who is eager to reclaim his spot in the Test side, took a career-best 7 for 114 for NSW on the first day at Sydney.
