Demolition Man Wisden CricInfo staff - November 10, 2002
Glenn McGrath's omnipotence against left-handers is well documented, but it was his mastery of England's right-handers that brought about the second-innings demolition at the Gabba. McGrath took 4 for 12 off 4.5 overs to the right-handers, and it was only some purposeful blows from Mark Butcher that dented his figures. Our graph shows where McGrath bowled to the right-handers, and it was, well, metronomic. Every delivery pitched outside off stump, and almost every delivery tested the batsman's judgment of what he could and could not leave. The dismissal of Nasser Hussain summed up the tantalising nature of McGrath's threat. The first five balls of the over were all left, but the sixth - which in hindsight would not have hit the stumps - demanded that Hussain play. He did so, and he perished.
