Zaheer to miss one-dayers
Wisden CricInfo staff - November 1, 2002

Zaheer Khan is likely to miss the upcoming one-day series against the West Indies because of a knee injury. He had a major role to play in the demolition of the West Indies at Mumbai and Chennai but the niggle saw him being rested for the match in Kolkata. Sourav Ganguly had said in the aftermath of the Chennai win that Zaheer needed rest before the tour of New Zealand and the new BCCI secretary SK Nair echoed those views. "He will probably miss the entire one-day series against the West Indies," he said. After making his one-day international debut at Nairobi in October 2000, Zaheer has played 49 matches, for 76 wickets. Sanjay Bangar has been drafted into the squad, with Dinesh Mongia dropping out of contention after indifferent performances in England and Sri Lanka.

The selectors have chosen a squad of 14 for the first three games. Further changes are likely when they meet again at Rajkot after the 3rd one-dayer on November 12. The series commences on November 6, in Jamshedpur, and winds up at Vijayawada on November 24.

Team Sourav Ganguly (capt), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Venkatsai Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Javagal Srinath, Ashish Nehra, Sanjay Bangar, Ajit Agarkar, Jai Prakash Yadav.
