Tel Aviv beat Petah Tikva to reach final 4

Tel Aviv reached the Cup semi final last Saturday, when they beat Division 2 outfit Petah Tikvah by 37 runs. Frank Auger won the toss for the third time running and Tel Aviv elected to bat on a gleaming Stadium Ground. Whilst a few of the Tel Aviv batsmen got going, with Steve Leigh, Danny Malyenkar, Phil Yisrael and Auger all getting into the twenties, none went on to play a really substantial innings. For the visitors, Yogi and Solomon took 3 wickets each, although all the Petah Tikvah bowlers must be complimented for sticking to their task. Whilst the bowlers stuck to a steady line and length, bowling just 10 wides, they also received support from the fielders who held on to all their catches..

Chasing 157, opening batsman Yogi might have thought he was going to do it all on his own, as he struck Avner Greenberg for 23 in his first 2 overs and the score shot to 36 off 6 overs. Stanley Perlman soon shattered his delusions of granduer as both openers fell immediately to the wiley off spinner. Mike Mohnblatt (10 for 65 so far this season) picked up 2 for 14 and Avner Greenberg returned to pick up 2 wickets as well. In the end Bensie Solomon held up the inevitable while he smacked a quick 24, before Petah Tikva were dismissed for 120. Special mention must be made of Tel Aviv stalwart Tony Wolfman who held on to 2 great catches, as did Phil Yisrael who looks like he has setled into Israeli cricket with the aplomb of a veteran
