Sachin joins the 8000 club
Wisden CricInfo staff - May 22, 2002

It was a mixed day for Sachin Tendulkar. He became only the tenth batsman to score 8000 Test runs, but his dismissal effectively ended India's chances of pulling off a remarkable victory in the fifth and deciding Test at Kingston. Tendulkar, who reached the landmark when he had scored 82, was dismissed for 86, 14 runs short of a 30th Test-century which would have taken him past Don Bradman's record of 29. But taking that record is a question of when rather than if.

Tendulkar could well eclipse Sobers (8032), Geoff Boycott (8114) and David Gower (8232) later this summer when India play four Tests in England.
