It's going to be no picnic in Division 1 Durham CCC Media Release - 8 May 2002
Durham Dynamos kick off their one-day campaign in Division One of the Norwich Union League on Sunday 12th May and it's going to be no picnic; at least on the pitch. Newly promoted Durham face tough opposition from Warwickshire Bears, who are already fully established in the first division after finishing third last season, plus it marks the return of ex-Durham star Melvyn Betts to the Riverside. If the excitement of seeing how Durham fair in their first top flight match isn't enough, there's lots of entertainment off the pitch. 'Family Fun' is the emphasis at Norwich Union League home games and this season we've introduced the Family Stand and Family Picnic Area. In our fully supervised Universal Kids Zone, the children will be kept amused by the bouncy castles, face painting, throwing and catching games, bats 'n' stumps and cricket coaching. And all for free. Chester The Lion, the Dynamos mascot, will also be on hand to keep the kids smiling. Jon Lewis, Captain, is confident that the Dynamos will be able to hold their own. "After last year's successful efforts to gain promotion to Division One of the Norwich Union League, we are really looking forward to testing ourselves at the higher level. "It will obviously be a tough challenge, but we learnt quickly last season and I am confident we can give a good account of ourselves this year as well. If we get a good start in this competition, anything is possible." Durham Dynamos versus Warwickshire Bears starts at 1.00pm on Sunday 12th May. Adults £8, Juniors £5 and members free. The first edition of Durham's programme, 'Dynamite' will be on sale, featuring articles, features and statistics on the Club, players and visitors. © Durham CCC
