Sri Lankan warm-up washed out CricInfo - 13 May 2002
Sri Lanka's final day's cricket before Thursday's first Test against England at Lord's was washed out by rain at Shenley. No play was possible on the last day of the tourists' match with Middlesex, and the match was abandoned as a draw. The tourists had built a useful lead of 193 in their second innings, reaching 281 for four, with Mahela Jayawardene unbeaten on 125 and Hashan Tillakeratne 71 not out. If Sanath Jayasuriya had been considerin a declaration today, the idea soon became a pipe dream as the persistent rain forced umpires Graham Burgess and Peter Hartley to abandon the game at lunch. © CricInfo Ltd.
