Kallicharran hits out at Harper Wisden CricInfo staff - March 23, 2002
In an exclusive interview with Wisden.com on his 53rd birthday, Alvin Kallicharran bitterly criticised the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and coach Roger Harper. Kallicharran, who won 66 Test caps, also lamented the fact that former West Indian greats, such as Michael Holding, Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge, were not invited to help coach today's young West Indian cricketers. "The West Indies Cricket Board in itself, they want people they can control," said Kallicharran. "What is Roger Harper doing being the coach of West Indies cricket? He was a mediocre player - he didn't accomplish anything. When he was playing, he was always asking people for advice, how to coach him." Kallicharran recalled a game in honour of Malcolm Marshall, two years ago, when he was talking to Holding, Richards and Greenidge, as well as Andy Roberts, Desmond Haynes, Colin Croft and Joel Garner. "When we looked at it, not one of us was involved with West Indies cricket. Not any single one." © Wisden CricInfo Ltd |
