Sehwag out of WI tour Wisden CricInfo staff - March 20, 2002
Virender Sehwag, India's dashing middle-order batsman, has been ruled out of the upcoming tour of West Indies because of a shoulder injury sustained earlier this month. "Sehwag's medical reports show that his shoulder is still in the process of healing, so he will not be considered for the Tests," BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah told AFP. "He is, however, expected to be fit for the one-dayers to follow." The national selectors meet in Bombay on Thursday to pick a 16-man squad for the five Tests, and a 14-man squad for the five one-dayers which follow. Sehwag, who has slammed one century and two half-centuries in his five Tests, was chosen ahead of VVS Laxman for the second Test against Zimbabwe at Delhi, during which he suffered the shoulder injury. Sehwag missed the subsequent one-day series against Zimbabwe - as did Sachin Tendulkar, who had a knee injury.
