India's highest total against Zimbabwe
Wisden CricInfo staff - March 19, 2002
Vijay Bharadwaj was making a comeback to the side after missing 68 matches. He last played a one-day international against New Zealand at Delhi in November 1999.
Dinesh Mongia's unbeaten 159 was the fourth highest score for India in ODIs. Only Sachin Tendulkar (186 not out against New Zealand at Hyderabad in November 1999), Sourav Ganguly (183 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in May 1999) and Kapil Dev (175 not out also against Zimbabwe at Tunbridge Wells in June 1983) have made more runs in an innings for India.
The 158-run partnership between Mongia and Yuvraj Singh was India's second best for the fifth wicket after the world record effort between Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja against Sri Lanka at Colombo (Premadasa) in August 1997.
The partnership was the best by any country against Zimbabwe for the fifth wicket bettering the previous best of 152 between Ijaz Ahmed and Inzamamul Haq of Pakistan at Harare in February 1995.
India's total of 333 for 6 was their fourth highest in ODIs. However it was their highest against Zimbabwe, obliterating the previous best of 319 for 6 in the second match of this series at Mohali on 10-3-2002. Incidentally, South Africa's 363-3 at Bulawayo on 23-9-2001 is now the only bigger team score against Zimbabwe in ODIs.
The 74 runs conceded by Gary Brent in nine overs is the most by any Zimbabwean bowler against India. Former legspinner Paul Strang had conceded 73 in his 10 overs at Colombo (SSC) in September 1996.
The wicket of Alistair Campbell was Zaheer Khan's 50th of his career in 34 matches. He became the 130th bowler in ODIs and the 19th Indian to do so.
The 84 run partnership between Grant Flower and Heath Streak was Zimbabwe's best for the sixth wicket against India bettering the 64 run stand put on by Ali Shah and Guy Whittall at Indore in November 1993.
