Pollock back for one-dayers
Wisden CricInfo staff - March 18, 2002

Shaun Pollock will return as captain of South Africa's one-day squad after missing the Test series against Australia because of a side strain. Pollock captains a 13-man squad for the first three ODIs of the seven-match series against the Aussies, which begins in Johannesburg on Friday.

Mark Boucher, who captained South Africa in the Test series which Australia won 2-1, will be vice-captain.

The squad includes 10 of the XI who won the VB Series final against New Zealand in Australia last month. The only player missing is fast bowler Allan Donald, who is recovering from the hamstring injury that brought the curtain down on his Test career at Johannesburg.

Four other players who were part of the squad in Australia were not included, however. Steve Elworthy, Charl Langeveldt and Justin Kemp were dropped, while Justin Ontong is also recovering from injury. In their place are all-rounder Andrew Hall and fast bowler Roger Telemachus.

Ashwell Prince, who played in the Tests against Australia, was not considered because his throwing arm is still affected by an operation on his left shoulder which caused him to miss the first part of the South African season.

Others who played in South Africas five-wicket win in the third Test Monday but were left out of the one-day squad were Graeme Smith, Paul Adams and David Terbrugge.

South African squad: Shaun Pollock (capt), Mark Boucher (vice-capt), Gary Kirsten, Herschelle Gibbs, Jacques Kallis, Boeta Dippenaar, Neil McKenzie, Jonty Rhodes, Lance Klusener, Andrew Hall, Nicky Boje, Makhaya Ntini, Roger Telemachus.
