India's cricket selectors have delayed naming the squad for the upcoming tour of the West Indies following an embarrassing defeat against Zimbabwe, officials said on Thursday. The selectors were due to pick the 16-man squad in Cochin on Wednesday evening, but put off the meeting after India crashed to a six-wicket defeat to trail 1-2 in the five-match series.

"The selectors were very angry at the defeat and decided to pick the touring team only after the series ends," Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah said. "They want to see how the players shape up in the last two matches." The squad will now be selected in Bombay on March 21.

India must win the remaining matches at Hyderabad on Saturday and Guwahati on Tuesday to bag the series. Sourav Ganguly was, however, retained as captain for the West Indies tour which includes five Tests and as many one-day internationals between April 11 and June 2.

"The selectors are very angry at the way the team played and almost everyone has been put on notice," a team source said. "There could be drastic changes for the West Indies if the team loses the series against Zimbabwe."

Star batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag, who are nursing injuries, have not been picked for the one-day matches against Zimbabwe. Legspinner Anil Kumble was also omitted for the last two matches because of a shoulder injury, but all three players will be available for the West Indies tour.
