Andy Flower: India are a tough proposition

Andy Flower, Zimbabwe's leading batsman, predicted that India would provide his side with stiff opposition in the one-day series, but, speaking exclusively to Wisden.com before the first match at Faridabad, he modestly played down his own record against India.

"I think it's a coincidence that I've scored some runs against India, maybe more so than other countries," he said. "It's just worked out that way. But one-day cricket against India in India is a tough proposition."

Stuart Carlisle, Zimbabwe's current captain, said he was trying to remain positive, despite the recent upheavals in the side. "We're going through a serious transitional phase at the moment, and there's some issues I can't really talk about, but it's important we try and focus on the future and turn things around."

He added that he found it helpful to have several former captains in his side, saying there were "no ego clashes."

One of those former captains, Heath Streak, was upbeat about Zimbabwe's cricketing future, because of the amount of talented young players coming through the ranks. "We've seen guys like Hamilton Masakadza come in and score centuries, and hopefully these players can be allowed to settle in and have long and successful careers with Zimbabwe."
